The Foundation for African Empowerment (FAE) is a not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to helping children with disabilities access quality education in Tanzania. Children with disabilities are the most stigmatized, discriminated and excluded in education and other aspects of society. They are the most vulnerable to violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment and exploitation. Thus, they are barred from realizing their right to education and other rights making them the most likely of all population groups to be living in extreme poverty today and in the future. Of all children out of school worldwide, children with disabilities are the majority of all making 65 million children which is equal to the population size of France. By 2008, it was estimated that 80% of children with disabilities in Tanzania are out of school. FAE works with schools, communities and other development partners to improve access to quality disability inclusive education so that children with disabilities may reach their full potential and thrive in their communities. Our Vision We envision a world that is fully inclusive, supportive and protective world for all children including those with disabilities. Our Mission To improve access to quality inclusive education for children with disabilities in Tanzania through providing support services, awareness-raising and advocacy.
