Iko Eco is a plastic waste collection network that has the potential to provide Kilimanjaro with desperately needed waste management services while simultaneously providing an income generation tool for the many underemployed residents of the community. We deploy an array of collection strategies, such as buy-back centers, community drop-off points, and cyclist collectors to ensure plastic is no longer burned, buried, or dumped in the neighbourhood! Through the operation of buy-back centers, where we purchase plastic from individuals on a per KG basis, our approach is designed to incentivize recycling and clean up Moshi.
